FIU Discovery is a search portal that fosters collaboration and connection with Florida International Universities’ expertise and impact.
Powered by an integrated stack of innovative technologies, FIU Discovery automates the aggregation, linking and dissemination of high-quality data about the University’s people, organizations, and related scholarly and creative works.
The platform is the next phase of Scholars@FIU and is a strategic component of the Universities’ research technology infrastructure for:
- Fostering team science and research collaboration
- Optimizing digital presences to reduce burden and enhance discoverability
- Enabling execution of the Universities’ research, rankings, and reputation strategies
Currently profiles are created in FIU Discovery for active faculty with 9 and 12 month contracts. It is anticipated that profiles will be created in the future for other populations at FIU.

Powered by an integrated stack of technologies, FIU Discovery helps faculty optimize their digital presence by automating the aggregation, linking and dissemination of high-quality data about the University’s people, organizations, and related scholarly and creative works.
Why should I maintain my profile in FIU Discovery?
There are a number of reasons why it is beneficial to maintain information in FIU Discovery.
- FIU Discovery can help you reduce the amount of effort it takes to manage and automate high quality Scholarly & Creative works data associated with you within FIU (i.e. Panther180 via ORCID) and outside of FIU (i.e. ORCID, Scopus, Web of Science, Crossref, Publons, SciENcv).
- FIU Discovery is a central place to link to the various digital presences you may already maintain. (i.e. Website, Google Scholar, ResearchGate, LinkedIn, Twitter)
- FIU Discovery is a strategic component of FIU’s university wide integrated infrastructure for enabling research collaboration and discovery. By maintaining at least some basic profile information, you will enhance your ability to leverage the related support resources across campus which are focused on facilitating your success.
Who has a profile in FIU Discovery?
Currently profiles are created for active faculty with 9 and 12 month contracts. It is anticipated that profiles will be created in the future for other populations of people.
Can you load the information I entered into Panther180 into FIU Discovery?
At this time, FIU Discovery is not integrating data from Panther180 into FIU Discovery. However, the data entered into Panther180 is being assessed for future integration possibilities.
Can I populate my website with the information from FIU Discovery?
We are currently developing mechanisms that will allow you to automate information from FIU Discovery to your website. We are also working with related resources on campus to populate other university websites/faculty directories.
Can I change my name?
Yes, you can change your name by editing your profile. See the ‘Set Preferred Name’ in the ‘Edit Your Discovery Profile’ guide in user resources for more information.
How can I search FIU Discovery?

Yes, you can submit a request for assistance with your profile.
I am receiving a "˜Permission Denied
If you have a profile in FIU Discovery and are receiving a permission denied error message when attempting to log in, please try the following steps.
- Clear your web browser’s cache and cookies.
- Reopen the browser and navigate to the following URL: https://fiu.elements.symplectic.org/
- Click the blue FIU Login button.
- Enter your FIU username (i.e. “˜smithj’) in the username field and your fiu password and click login.
If you are still having issues, submit a request for assistance and someone from the Research Information Systems team will be in contact with you.
