The Office of Laboratory Animal Research (LAR) ensures the humane care and use of animals in biomedical research and teaching at Florida International University and also provides veterinary services for the FIU Animal Care Facility. Oversight of the Animal Care and Use Program is the joint responsibility of the Office of Laboratory Animal Research and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). The Office of Laboratory Animal Research (LAR) oversees the ordering of animals and animal medications for Florida International University as detailed below.

Animal Orders

Only FIU personnel that are designated on an IACUC approved protocol are permitted to order animals. The Animal Care Facility (ACF) Animal Purchase Request Form can be found by selecting the below hypelink:

The ACF Animal Order Administrator will receive the completed form via email and review to determine if the animal order is approved for submittal to the appropriate vendor. Once the order has been submitted to the vendor, the ACF Animal Order Administrator will send a confirmation to the requestor informing them when the order is expected to arrive.

If you are unsure if you are designated to order animals on a protocol, please check the Protocol Associates section on the approved Protocol. The Authorized to Order Animals checkbox should be selected to order animals if you are not the PI.

Animal Medication Orders

Only FIU personnel that are designated on an IACUC approved protocol are permitted to order medication for animals. The Animal Care Facility (ACF) Animal Medication Request Form can be found by selecting the below hypelink:

The ACF Animal Order Administrator will receive the completed form via email and review to determine if the animal medication request is approved for submittal to the appropriate vendor.
