RCR Requirements

The Office of Research Integrity will conduct monthly quality assurance reviews to ensure that all NSF, NIH and USDA funded grants that fit the requirements below are fulfilling the required RCR training(s). An email will be sent monthly requesting Principal Investigators (PIs) to certify on a per award basis, that all required personnel supported by these grants have completed RCR training(s).

NSF Proposals

The RCR CITI Online Training is required to be completed for all undergraduates, graduate students, and postdoctoral researchers who will be supported by NSF to conduct research.  This applies to all NSF proposals submitted on or after January 4, 2010.  For more information, please see the NSF RCR web page.

NIH Training Grants

The RCR CITI Online Training and the RCR Continuing Education Workshops are required for all trainees, fellows, participants, and scholars through any NIH training, career development award (individual or institutional), research education grant, and dissertation research grant. This applies to all new and renewal applications submitted on or after January 25, 2010, and for all continuation (Type 5) applications with deadlines on or after January 1, 2011. This Notice applies to the following programs: D43, D71, F05, F30, F31, F32, F33, F34, F37, F38, K01, K02, K05, K07, K08, K12, K18, K22, K23, K24, K25, K26, K30, K99/R00, KL1, KL2, R25, R36, T15, T32, T34, T35, T36, T37, T90/R90, TL1, TU2, and U2R.

This policy also applies to any other NIH-funded programs supporting research training, career development, or research education that require instruction in responsible conduct of research as stated in the relevant funding opportunity announcements. The NIH Training Certification Form needs be completed by the Principal Investigator on a per award basis.

USDA NIFA Awards

The RCR CITI Online Training is required for program directors, faculty, undergraduate students, graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and any staff participating in the research project.  For more information, see the NIFA Research Terms and Conditions.

University Graduate School

The RCR CITI Online Training is required for all graduate students filing an M2 Form or D3 Form submission with the University Graduate School (UGS). Please direct all M2 and D3 submission questions to the UGS office staff.
