Project Charter

A project charter is an important document to establish in the initiation stages of your project as it will guide project activities throughout the entire project lifecycle.    It concisely describes within a couple of pages all key characteristics and constraints of the project;  including a summary, purpose/justification, objectives and success criteria, scope, schedule, stakeholders as well as other known considerations such as risks and assumptions.   Please note that the generic template below should not be used in the place of a research proposal.    For more information about preparing an Electronic Proposal Routing and Approval Form (EPRAF), please see the related Proposal Preparation resources.

Stakeholder Register

A stakeholder register is a valuable tool that you and your project team can use throughout the entire project lifecycle to identify, analyze and ultimately engage all stakeholders impacted by your project.

Work Breakdown Structure & Gantt Chart

Once you have established your project and related scope in the Project Charter, a work breakdown structure can help you to break down the scope into specific assignable tasks.   It can also help to organize the relationships between tasks.    A Gantt chart is a visual representation of the tasks in the form of a bar chart.  It can be useful as a valuable communication tool for stakeholders throughout the entire lifecycle of your project.   The following template includes both a work breakdown structure and related Gantt chart.

Communications Plan

A communications plan is a valuable tool to identify and manage how you communicate throughout the entire lifecycle of your project to all impacted stakeholders.
